I manually downloaded and installed lyx_1.6.0-1_all.deb and lyx-
common_1.6.0-1_all.deb from Jaunty on an Intrepid system, and no other
jaunty packages were required. I've been using it for 1 few days now,
and it appears to be functioning correctly.
Therefore I believe that backporting lyx 1.6.0

LyX 1.5.7 was never packaged for Debian/Ubuntu and is not in any
official Ubuntu repository. It is therefore not eligible for
backporting.

At least the newly released LyX version 1.5.7 should be backported for
Hardy and Intrepid.
Main feature of 1.5.7 is the ability to read documents created with
version 1.6.0.
