You should take this up with SageTV whose deb you installed.
No support can be given by Ubuntu for packages not downloading from its
archives

Scott, Fully Agree, but Ubuntu O.S should at least protect itself from bad
software, and not just let any DEB mess up the BOOT process. I guess that is
why I opened the bug in the first place 2 years ago. I don't even know if it
is still present today.

Sorry, but the fix did not work. Here's what happens:
Once we exit the SageTV code activation question using CRTL+ALT+F5, I am able
to log into my home directory.
However, when running the sudo apt-get remove sagetv-server command, Ubuntu
informs that:
E: Could not get lock /varlib/dpkg/lock -
Hit CTRL+F2...8 until you get to a shell login and type:
sudo update-rc.d -f remove sagetv
Restart and enjoy.
Oh, and don't forget to apt-get remove sagetv and forget anything ever
happened. ;)
