I am using a Toshiba A10-137 Notebook. In 8.04 I got sound with
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base entry:
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba
But MIC was not working.

I've tested and 9.04 has the same problem.
I don't think it was fixed, as my post in alsa mailing list is not answered yet
(see link above).
