I'm using the Ati driver from
System - Administration - Hardware Drivers
Compiz is now working (on the middle setting)
I also went into a terminal console
Applications - Accessories - Terminal
and typed
gstreamer-properties
the predictive text function on the Tab key helps ;)
In the pop-up box,
Jay, I have the exact same problem, it is so frustrating, I went through Compiz
100 times,...
Anyway I run LinuxMint and thanks for the tip on F11 twice ;o)
When could a fix be expected?

I had a problem like this but found that Firefox window had resized to a
size larger than the screen resolution display. I was able to grab the
title bar and pull firefox away from the top of the screen and then
resize the window to someting much smaller. Good luck.

I think the first ati driver isn't perfect but its a great improvement
for my system and i'm sure they'll be upgrades soon (fingers crossed)
