This problem was a corrupted dpkg info file. I just reinstalled the
offending package in /var/lib/dpkg/info and it solved the
installation/upgrade problem. There is, nonetheless, a non-zero
possibility of with dpkg info becoming corrupted and the average user
may not be able to solve it...
