I am also experiencing difficulties that sound very similar to this problem. I

That´s strange. I´m quite certain there was xv when I tested the alpha 2 livecd.
Just tried the alpha 3 livecd and there was no xv like Baard experienced.
It appears that it´s a problem with the drivers not supporting this older

Tried installing Karmic alpha 2 today. Unfortunately I was not able to
reproduce the problem, since the intel driver failed to provide Xv. I

person who has verified the problem on karmic. So I need either for
Baard to test karmic, or for you to provide the full set of files that
Baard did. I can't mix your verification with his files, since the two

than testing with gstreamer-properties, but now the entire window flickers
between the old behaviour and disappearing completely. Even the window
decoration is missing most of the time. Moving makes it appears (only

A new major version of the -intel driver is now available in Karmic.
This version includes a major reworking of the acceleration
architecture, which resolves a huge number of issues. We do not know
whether it resolves the issue you reported.

this happens also when enabling metacity compositing. it's been
happening to me since gutsy. it appears to be an issue with the
compositing extension, which is quite problematic, since it precludes
users of this chipset from using apps that require compositing.
