This is set as Fix Released but it just happened to me upgrading a
machine from Hardy to Karmic. I'm not sure if the fix regressed or if
that large a change missed some packages in the middle. But I beleive
LTS to any release is supported.
Preparing to replace qemu 0.9.1-5ubuntu3 (using
Soren says that he committed a change to kvm that should fix this.

I see. This was intended to be solved by kvm 1:79+dfsg-0ubuntu3, which
FTBFS because of a typo (s/man1/man8/):
mv /build/buildd/kvm-79+dfsg/debian/tmp/usr/share/man/man1/qemu-nbd.8
/build/buildd/kvm-79+dfsg/debian/tmp/usr/share/man/man8/kvm-nbd.8
mv: cannot stat
