shifting some bits along. Wierd anyway. Err, does it behave when you
switch compiz off?

Have you played around with the gstreamer properties to see if other
settings work better? I had a flickering screen until i switched the
Video output to ... (no Xv) but that's mostly because ati-drivers aren't
great just yet.

Hi Tom thanks for the tips.
But the flickering problem persists with all the video driver
configurations and also when compiz is switched off. I also changed the
refresh rate to 75Hz (using ViewSonic VA1703wb) where 60Hz was default.
But this didn't change the situation. I also had this problem
