Do you have the Nautilus-actions extension installed? It is a very common cause of the crash described above. But we can't know for certain without a stacktrace, please try to follow the instructions above. If you have problems getting a stacktrace in Nautilus, try killing nautilus before by

I exactly followed the instructions from the wiki page. Running gdb nautilus in rxvt produces the exact same results as the already attached backtrace. Any tips how to get a propper backtrace? No other nautilus processes where running at the time. Uninstalling nautilus-actions also doesn't make

I narrowed it down a bit more. Without Metacity running I cannot start the nautilus browser from any non-gnome application (Sawfish keybindings/Xterm). It starts from Gnome Panel or gnome-terminal without any problems. Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks, Michael -- Nautilus crashes

Thank you for reporting. Can you please clarify what you mean by not starting? Nautilus is already running if you are able to open folders on your desktop (as Nautilus is generally responsible for drawing the desktop). If it is crashing, can you get a backtrace of the crash? You can find the

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to get a backtrace using gdb before but it didn't output anything useful (see attachment). Thats why I attached the strace. By not starting I mean I cannot generate new instances of nautilus (file browser windows) besides the already running desktop process.
