I tested the issue on Intrepid full update (as suggested by Pedro) and
in fact the portable audio device is correctly recognized. I think some
updates fix the issue present in the live.
Moreover I can confirm the bug in Hardy (I tested this on a fresh
install). I think that some updates did the
closing the bug since that works now

@Pedro, I will try to test Intrepid with latest packages as soon as possible (I
use Hardy so for me is rather difficult to test other distros if they aren't
live cd as I have a slow internet connection).

thanks for the report, a similar bug was fixed with some updates in
intrepid could you test with latest packages and see if it's still an
issue? could you give us the output of lshal lshal.txt and attach
