The problem remains with the latest kernel (2.6.27-12-generic)
When inserting a blank cd, dmesg reports:

Workaround (rarely work though)
- I tried the newest brasero here https://launchpad.net/~bdrung/+archive/ppa
- Pop in the DVD then reboot. You might be able to burn.

I got the same problem. 2.6.27-11-generic ; kubuntu ibex with the latest
updates. I can no longer burn any DVD !
