FWIW, movies play fine here in totem and other players while the
unstripped packages are installed. Still a problem?

If you install these packages, and then try to play a video in Totem, it
crashes.

please state the exact versions of packages that you have tried, and
please describe the action you did to reproduce the bug.
the -unstripped- packages are not and will never be the default ones,
btw.
