Seems like this is fixed upstream
http://git.gnome.org/cgit/mobile-broadband-provider-info/tree/serviceproviders.xml
The info is:
provider
nameMovistar/name
gsm
network-id mcc=334 mnc=03/
apn
the broadband provider information format has changed. In particular we
would like more information. In particular we need the network id of the
service provider. For example:
country code=ae
provider
nameEtisalat/name
gsm
network-id

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.
This does not affect the majority of average users, Hence not
setting the Ubuntu status to Triaged, unassigning, and subscribing
ubuntu-main-sponsors.

Antti,
I've tested my patch and it works OK. I've also added some info for
Mobily in Saudi Arabia in the hopes of resolving the problem detailed
here (http://www.ubuntuhcl.org/browse/product+huawei-e170?id=6825)
Let me know if anything else is needed.

Antii,
Can you please tell me how to test my patch locally on Ubuntu?

You received this bug notification because you
1. copy the patched serviceprovider.xml to /usr/share/mobile-broadband-
provider-info/serviceprovider.xml
2. use nm-connection-editor to create a new mobile broadband
configuration
3. test the configuration through nm-applet
thanks!!

Antti,
I've come up with a patch (attached) but I'd like to test it locally before it
gets committed.
How can I test this locally on my laptop?
