Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have three identical systems having the same problem.

System: HP Compaq dc7900 tower pc (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 VT Enabled 4GB RAM
Bios V1.11)
Distro: Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 2.6.27-11.26-server

vmware-server-1.0.8 is installed in the system using the steps described here:
http://www.insecure.ws/2008/10/20/vmware-specific-specific-55x-and-kernel-2627

There is no problem with the installation. I created a 12GB vm disk
without any problem. However, whenever I start the guest, the system
locks up and begin throwing sata errors. All three systems have the same
problem. The ata cmd in the messages are different from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309901 so I create a new report.

I tried disabling hpet/acpi, nomsi, noapic, libata.force=noncq without
success

To reproduce, I run dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/data1/test123 bs=1000000 count=100000
but it did not trigger. /data1 is also on the same disk.
It happens only when starting a vmware guest.

I tried collecting dump information using sysrq triggers however
keyboard (usb) does not respond after the crash.

Attachments are following.

Kind Regards

Berk
