Depmod segfaults when configuring linux-image-2.6.28-8-generic

Try this:
sudo depmod -a 2.6.28-8-generic
If you run only
sudo depmod -a
it updates the modules database for the running kernel, not the kernel
just installed, the command above maybe gives you more information.
