If you do a clean upgrade from intrepid, it will not be a problem; and clearing
of the icon cache will not be needed.
The problem with the few missing icons still remaining is a upstream
issue; and I'm pretty sure they are aware of it. Thanks for noticing.

You might need to clear the icon cache (even a restart is not guaranteed to do
that):
rm /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/kpc/kde-icon-cache.*

I have upgraded the Kile to 1:2.1~svn20090217-0ubuntu4 and reboot.
However the icons are still missing.
I'm using Kile under Gnome.

This problem occurred in 2.1~svn20090217-0ubuntu2 of kile, but was fixed
in 2.1~svn20090217-0ubuntu3. However it doesn't take effect until the
icon cache is re-generated; maybe a kdm restart is enough, else you need
to restart the machine. Can I have you test, that it works after a
restart?
