I also have this problem: Kernel boots as usual, no errors, warnings (as far as
I can see, no splash), but instead of the usual GDM a blank screen stares at
me. I can't restart X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, and I can't switch to one of the
virtual consoles. Only way to shutdown is pressing the powe
