I've noticed that the suspend fails if there is a mounted SD card formated to ext3 in the card slot. vfat cards seem to work OK. If you have an ext3 formated SD card, perhaps the problem went away because you took it out? -- [Dell Inc. Inspiron 910] suspend/resume failure
