Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

I have a Thinkpad R52. It that has three buttons to control the volume:
down, up and mute. The buttons are partially implemented in hardware.

Pressing the mute button multiple times never unmutes the volume.
However, the state shown by the volume notification toggles between
muted and unmuted. The actual volume however stays muted.

Expected behavior: Pressing the mute button multiple times should result in
either
a) the notification not toggling between muted and unmuted (leaving the audible
behavior like it is now) or should
b) actually unmute the volume, not just display it unmuted

I am using Jaunty, last updated a few minutes before writing this. As
far as I can remember it used to work like a) just fine in previous
Ubuntu versions,
