The above change of 60-persistent-storage.rules as Simon explained, in
my case, makes one of the partitions disappear from /dev/disk/by-label
and /dev/disk/by-uuid. As a result, my boot partition is not get mounted
(which makes problems only upgrading the kernel).

I'm using 9.04 server 2.6.28-11-server with an external usb disk which I
use for backups and like to spin down when not in use. I have been using
sdparm -C stop /dev/sdb with all partitions unmounted, which works

2.6.28-11-server). But, this looks wrong. Because in the Hardy system,
where the disks spin down, it is ACTION!=add|change,
GOTO=persistent_storage_end in the corresponding place.

reboot. It's with 2.6.26-2-amd64 kernel of current debian sid. The
Hitachi SATA disc in question is connected as a single device unit via
3ware 9650SE-4LPML.

I am using Kubuntu jaunty.
I have an extra hard disk that I am used to spin down when using
Kubuntu. I do that with command:
sudo hdparm -Y /dev/sdb
When using kernel 2.6.28-11-generic the disk will spin down but starts
again without any delay. My disk
