I have found the cause of the unstable Jabber server. It works on this box, compiled with gcc version 3.4.6 (Ubuntu 3.4.6-1ubuntu2). It crashes for various reasons/after max 30 minutes on gcc version 4.0.3 (Ubuntu 4.0.3-1ubuntu5) So the older version of GCC is required to compile a stable server
