Disregard that last comment, just check the installation. For .12
backport-modules was present, for the newer kernels it wasn't. Now
running .15 with backport and as you can see the network connection
works...

Is the compat-wireless stack the same as the old madwifi drivers? If it
is I don't think this will do me any good. On Hardy/Intrepid I ran
always on the latest SVN version of those drivers and crashes were quite
frequent there. No instant lock up, but a after a while (hour or 2) it

First, can you try installing linux-backports-modules-jaunty to see if
it helps? The reason I ask is because linux-backports-modules-jaunty
contains and updated compat-wireless stack which may help. If the issue
remains, can you try the latest upcoming Karmic Alpha release? ISO CD

The crash originated from the LiveCD version of Jaunty. Upgrade to the
.12 release of the kernel fixes the crash, though I'm still left with
the occasional failure to connect to/disconnect from the wireless router
(linksys wrtn160). I've reverted the upgrade to .13 of the kernel as
this brings back
The error information for this report is from a Hardy system but the freeze is
from a Jaunty LiveCD. Is it possible to upgrade to current Jaunty and report
the result? The cause of the freeze is unclear without that information.
