I had a broken soft link that was preventing me from doing
the updates. (as you can see in the term.log)
Changing symlinks in /usr/bin is user error.
The ValueError from the log is a safety check against such

I can not un-install the offending gedit-plugins package.
I marked the updates I wanted to apply and hit update.
The updating window came up for a short while then errored out not all changes

I can confirm this bug on a i386 version of this package.
