After reproduce the issue (with Vlc 0.9.9.a) and Totem 2.26.1

@Facilys, can you attach the output of xrandr --verbose and also a
copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
You can workaround this by launching gstreamer-properties and setting
the video TAB to something other than XV. However, you are likely to see
very very high CPU usage so it's not a long term
