Since we've updated the -ati in Gusty to one that includes full xrandr
1.2 support, this issue should now be resolved. Feel free to reopen

I'm also seeing this in edgy, using the BigDesktop with the fglrx
driver. I can provide Xorg log files if needed. Is this likely to be
patched officially any time soon or should I just patch my own system
rather than wait?

RandR stops working with MergedFB when the external display is
The patch works for me (two/three days, xrandr never stopped working).
Would be nice if somebody with commit access to upstream X could apply
it. Or at least if Feisty had the patch applied if no upstream
developer has the time to take a look at it in time.
The patch (for
I'm pretty sure I have discovered the cause of the bug and a fix. The
patch is in the upstream bugzilla, and I am currently testing it.
The bug is in xorg-server rather than in the ATI driver.

I'm now running Edgy. I switched to a clone mode while the external LCD
was disconnected, used it for a few hours, suspended to RAM, resumed,
and now xrandr (or xvidtune -next) doesn't have any effect.

RandR stops working with MergedFB when the external display is disconnected
I can confirm this in current edgy: ati radeon 9200, merged fb clone,
xrandr stops working sometimes after disconnecting the external monitor.
Other times it works fine. Could be sleep related (I can't rule it out,
because I have had the system suspended before the error occurs).
