Similar situation here: Dell Vostro 1320 with broadcom 4312 chipset. It used to work fine (out of the box) with Jaunty. The wireless device is shown in the commandline (iwconfig), but the NetworkManager refuses to enable wireless networking. I've had exactly the same behavior already in Hardy.

I have a HP Mini 1010nr with the Broadcom 4312 wifi card. I see this too, to get it to work, I had to put in the install CD and add it as a source in Synaptic. Then I installed bcmwl-kernel-source (which will install dkms, fakeroot and something else). This let me start using my 4312 in 9.10
