This is a Lenovo T61p w/4GB RAM.
Yesterday, the following was logged after I was trying to maximise a
window in Firefox (Compiz was running). The system froze, but not hard
-- drive light etc was flashing after the GUI froze:

This bug can be closed. The problems where happening because of a faulty
RAM module.

If it is of any use, with compiz off it seems to be behaving better. It
stills hangs sometimes, but a lot less frequently.
