By did not work, I cannot say I entirely recall what happened, and it
would be rather awkward for me to remove python-gnome2-desktop again for
testing. But it certainly was not usable, and I don't think it even
opened.

My patch simply added the dependency python-gnome2-desktop as I
confirmed that it does not work without that package installed.

it not start? a depends seems not required if it works without it, the
upload should also be targetted to karmic and not jaunty

As suggested I added the package python-gnome2-desktop as a dependency
and attatched a debdiff.
