Pidgin 2.5.7 is not going to be added in repository for existing stable
versions of Ubuntu. The fix for the protocol change will like be backported to
the versions in repositories. (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates)

Fixed the original problem on June 21st.
Today account disconnected message. Not connecting at all.
Changed to scsa.msg.yahoo.com server in hosts.
Buddy Lists will not load.

I am using a new Yahoo! account on Pidgin, working correctly.
The server here is scsa.msg.yahoo.com and I could not connect with the
"@yahoo.ext" part of the email address - only the username has to be used
(error 1013 otherwise).

fix) then your settings were probably carried over to 2.5.7 and the
particular address may no longer work. I ran into this issue this

found that after installing pidgin-extprefs and pidgin-plugin-pack, pidgin will
not show avaiable icon in panel after launch. hover displays "Pidgin -
Available", but icon is the one displayed while connecting. once yah0o is
unchecked in accounts, available icon is displayed.
