I replaced xorg.conf with an old backup that was automatically made from
an upgrade. It fixed everything. But I guess the bug is an issue with
changing the video settings in gnome (I was trying to do duel monitors
to play a movie) and I guess (maybe changing resolutions?) was to blame
for the
