Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usplash
When working in a virtual terminal on my laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 with GNOME, the terminal won't display any bright colors. (I've noticed this issue when using terminal applications such as Midnight Commander, Nano, and Bash. Using setterm to change the settings doesn't help. Any GUI programs are displayed normally though. I also don't have this issue on my desktop computer which also runs Ubuntu 9.04.) This issue doesn't occur when the GDM daemon isn't started while booting or when the boot splash screen has been disabled by removing the "splash" boot option. Adding the "vga=xxx" boot option fixes the terminal problem but causes a black screen to appear while a splash screen or boot process information should be displayed.
