Closing as Won't Fix as per how the bug was closed upstream. This is both non-trivial to implement for the reasons provided in the upstream bug report, and there is a clear and easy workaround: using Shift - Arrow to open and close threads. Thanks! ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu)

Whatever the fix was, it did not solve this problem for me. This bug is still present in evolution-2.22.1-0ubuntu3 that comes with Hardy. The 'left' and 'right' key do not do anything, but SHIFT-left closes and SHIFT-right opens a thread. -- Arrow keys do not open and close threads

In Gutsy (Evolution 2.12.1) the arrow keys only work in combination with SHIFT, which is better than nothing but not ideal. So, 'SHIFT-right' opens a mail thread, and 'SHIFT-left' closes it. Why not simply use 'right' and 'left'? This seems more logic, and makes it a lot easier to browse through
