Public bug reported:

If you sudo -s to a root shell, and then run byobu, a ~/.byobu directory
will exist in your non-root user's home directory, but the files/dirs
will be owned by root.  This will make it impossible to change these
files (select a different profile, toggle status notifications) as your
non-root user.
