Seems like I was a little late. I've got the package ready (and am one
of the upstream devs so I will make sure remaining changes will be in
the next Debian release if possible).
Please check my PPA which tells me that the package I uploaded will be
starting compilation in about 2 hours.

debian/changelog doesn't list the patches added as remaining changes.
Also, we seem to drop a Debian patch that does the same as one we add,
so using the Debian one instead (tweaking it as needed) would seem to
be better.
