The problem was caused by a experimental Spanish (Chile) language-pack
for Firefox 3.5. So the Ubuntu package is not the problem.

CTRL + C is the copy hotkey. CTRL + W is the close tab hotkey. Could
you have a corrupt profile possibly? Please try a new profile and let
us know if that helps. You don't need to delete your old profile to
test.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. I was not able to reproduce this on
Jaunty unless I launched from the command line and the terminal I launched from
was in the foreground when I press CTRL + C, which is the correct behavior.
How did you launch Firefox? What window was on top when
I only have seen this incident in karmic.
-Open firefox-3.5 in any way.
-Click on any part of the web page (out of a text box).
-Press Ctrl + C.
