This appears to be fixed now, I haven't tested in awhile so I can't
which update fixed it, but I can no longer reproduce with the latest
updates.

After rotating the Desktop, and rotating back to Normal the screen goes
black. The screen is can be restored by switch to a VT and then back to
X or by closing the lid and opening it back up.

This issue still exists with the latest updates. I have spent some more
time playing with this some more and, it only occurs when rotating back
to normal orientation. I can rotate between left,right and inverted
freely the screen is only going blank when rotating back to normal.

Setting to incomplete while we wait for register dumps.
Also, I've put in two fixes to the xserver to handle blanking issues, so
you might want to update to latest xserver and see if that has an impact
on the issue.
