This was discussed in Debian Java mailing list and a decision has been
made to move -gcj packages from 'Recommends' to 'Suggests'. This has
been implemented for some packages already. Remaining packages will be
worked in coming months.

I will discuss this change in Debian Java mailing list. Since Debian has also
switched to openjdk as default-jdk if this change gets implemented there we
don't have to maintain Ubuntu specific change.
Meanwhile you can use '--no-install-recommends' option for apt-get to install
libitext-java wit

Can someone bump up the priority on this? Almost all of the other Java
libraries have been changed in this manner for Karmic, and this is the
only library package left that's preventing Maven from installing
properly.
