try with last kernel version, (Lucid upstream) which is located on
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32/?

Just experienced this after applying the latest Karmic updates. Laptop
seemed to go to sleep properly but on resume after entering my password
everything was greyed out (like when Compiz crashes).

I would like to add that suspend/resume worked flawlessly when I last
used it few days ago.

Tried to suspend again and now it worked... still, I'll leave this open
because it could have some useful info about why it failed that time.
