After recent updates and/or manual re-installation of gdebi gdebi-core
(using synaptic):
Solved for me (gdebi-gtk works as usual).
I tested booting from 2.6.31-6 and from 2.6.31-999 (build of Aug-19),
installing minicom and adobe flashplayer (new downloads) plus
reinstallation from existed .deb
yup, the latest updates worked for me as well. i didn't need to
reinstall gdebi.

I'm getting the same error. I just reinstalled my system from a fresh
9.04 and updated to Karmic via updatemanager -d. Now, nothing installs
via gdebi-gtk.
