This seems to be caused by the Realtek 8168b gigabit ethernet. It's
initially using r8169 driver, I tried switching to r8168 driver, and the
problem comes even faster. If the driver is not loaded (single user
mode), then everything is fine.

Does anybody else use dmraid along with realtek 8168 NIC, they seem
pretty ubuquitous (my desktop, laptop, and this atom board all have one)
and it's hard for me to believe someone else hasn't run into this
problem.

I think I'm wrong about the ethernet driver. It was actually still
loaded in single user mode. So it may be a more complicated problem
involving a network service or something else that isn't loaded in
single-user mode.

This keeps happening when I write to the RAID, and I have noticed that I
can get it to complete the resync just fine in single-user mode, have
done this twice now. Next will attempt to turn off SMP and
hyperthreading. Using the server kernel image at the moment.
** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu)
for instance, today I committed an SVN revision to the server, only to
find it was hung seconds later. What kind of tools should I use to
figure this out?

Also, forgot to mention, I ran Western Digital's diagnostic tools and
scanned each drive for errors (passed) and also wrote zeros to all
sectors of both drives with dd.
My first experience with raid.
