Is this still and issue for you? We are trying to trying sort out the
older Mozilla issues and would like to know if this still happens.

On Edgy, Firefox now says:
(*) Open with: Image Viewer (default)
and the PNG opens with EOG.
All seems correct.

The underlying issue is that Firefox (and mozilla in general) does not
follow freedesktop's MIME specs.
That is bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296443
(Whether Firefox should use exactly the same dialog is of lesser
importance: the important part is that the applications listed
bug 58710 is likely a duplicate of this
