I've experienced the same issue, and have successfully got it to work by
changing the path in
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.synce.SyncEngine.service.
Attached is a proposed patch.

This is fixed in the current version of synce-sync-engine in Lucid.

wrong binary. Either that file or the binary should be changed in

Instead of dealing with symlink, I just copied the file to the required
name in the same folder. Worked.
