I am a new User to Ubuntu and can confirm the darkening of the
background is ugly and distracting. An option to disable this would be
greatly welcome and make me use Linux more.

Unable to disable gksudo fade

You received this bug notification because you
I have a machine I only connect to with FreeNX, the fade takes ages to
stream to my client. I'd love to see an option to disable the fade, or
simple remove the fade, and keep the background dimming. Just something
that isn't so demanding to stream.

Unable to disable gksudo fade
Can you developers add a key to /apps/gksu something like, fade-duration
so that we can configure this setting using gconf-editor? Pretty please?
:) This would seem to be a very simple fix. Disabling force-grab results
in an ugly window using Compiz, although does seem to do the trick for
now.

I just confirm the quite ugly fade effect, specifically when beryl is
running.
Hope someone find a way to fix it, or give the option to disable it. ( a
friendly solution for non-hackers ^_^)
My PC:
OS: Ubuntu Desktop Feisty
CPU: Intel PIV 3.2GHZ HT
RAM: 1024
VIDEO CARD: Nvidia Fx5500 256Ram

The fade totally f*ck things up with Beryl.
This MUST be fixed.

My fix is:
Download the gksu source code and all packages needed to build it.
Edit gksu.c and change:
#define FADE_DURATION 500.0
To:
#define FADE_DURATION 0.0
Compile and install.
Tada! It is secure but fast. Why not just add an option for this?

I DO NOT want to disable the grabbing of the input with /apps/gksu
/disable-grab, this is a security issue. I just want to disable the
REALLY UGLY and slow fading animation ...

Closing the bug: as mentionned earlier, setting the /apps/gksu/disable-
grab GConf key to true provides an easy way of disabling the fade. I
don't think this setting should make it further into the UI, and we
should rather concentrate on making it work on all pieces of hardware
(please file
Same here, the fade effect isn't very nice, it looks like a piece of
dirty programmed software, for programer, who woult like to test some
of the features of thier programs, but not for the end user. it totally
don't fit into the other -mostly nice- look of the Ubuntu interface
