I have a similar problem although slightly altered variant of it. I set
compact layout for home after the installation and turned it off a
couple of minutes later. Now /home is the only folder that is displayed
in normal layout and every other folder has compact layout even though
the tick in
Sorry for being so unprecise before, my manners. I experience this bug
on a clean install of Ubuntu Karmic Koala that I put on my laptop today.
Everything is how it came from the Desktop Install CD and the repository
updates provided by Canonical. I have no confirmed this with my Desktop
PC also.
Clearing ~/.nautilus/metafiles/ has no effect on this.

Thanks, it's clearer with the video you use the preference dialog option
on a new folder and not the combo list in the toolbar
