Of course the item can be edited with the menu editor (alacarte) - that
is not the point. The installation of software-center removes and
updates the Applications menu properly. It does not however, do the same
for the System|Administration menu.

I do not experience this, the menu item is removed correctly.
Closing this bug as to me it seems the problem is fixed, but also this
is from a development release and so in the final release this shall be
fixed (as software-center will be installed by default)

Although *you* did not experience this, both myself and Dale Jefferson
did. Dale was even kind enough to provide a screenshot. Would you like

My karmic installation is a clean test machine install with all updates

Thanks for the added explanation. Given that the beta is scheduled for
release in 3 days I'll look for a correction/fix there. However I still
think it a good idea to figure out why the application installation
failed to remove software-store from System|Administration - if nothing
else to prevent
software-center uninstalls correctly (removes menu item) and since no
users will see the out dated software-store package this is not a bug.
