Most likely, it's a corrupted download. You can fix that by cleaning out the package cache and reinstalling the package (which will download it again). sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-2.6.28-15-generic -- package linux-image-2.6.28-15-generic 2.6.28-15.49 failed
