I cannot say whether or not this is still an issue. I just disabled the proprietary driver for my software modem as I rarely used it and the sound worked after a reboot. I am currently running another distro on the laptop so I'll toss in a 9.10 live CD (will probably try the 10.04 beta too) and

Hi raize221, Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It

The latest 2.6.31-14 kernel and pulseaudio 0.9.19 seem to have corrected the problem for me. I used a usb headset before the latest kernel and pulseaudio. Try updating to see if this works for you. -- No Sound in 9.10 Beta with Intel 82801G https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441944 You received

Every time I reboot the Master Volume under alsamixer is set back to zero. It seems very similar to this bug, but need to investigate further. https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/432660 -- No Sound in 9.10 Beta with Intel 82801G https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441944

One thing that will greatly assist me in diagnosing this symptom is to confirm that, prior to logging via gdm, the desired mixer levels are muted or zeroed. Please reboot, and switch to a text console instead of logging in via a graphical greeter. Login via getty, and use amixer or alsamixer to

Daniel; I did not find Master Volume in the usually Sound settings? The volume switches I did encounter were not set to zero. I was able to remedy by running alsamixer, but isn't this an overly- obtuse method for the masses? Maybe I missed the simpler solution(s). -- No Sound in 9.10 Beta with

This problem has been temporarily resolved by disabling the proprietary Smart Link Software Modem driver available in Ubuntu's Hardware Drivers dialog (jockey-gtk). This is actually a compatibility issue between alsa and the modem driver. -- No Sound in 9.10 Beta with Intel 82801G
