Same as William. Upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and now thumb drives (and my
external hard drive and my camera) don't auto mount. I'm able to
manually mount them but this is not ideal and in fact a step backwards.

nothing happens when usb disk is plugged in
I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10. In 9.04, all usb devices auto mount. In
9.10, the devices are recognized (my mouse works fine), lsusb shows the
thumbdrive, but automount doesn't happen. Manual mounting works fine.
I did a clean install on my wife's computer of 9.10 and it automounts

I had a similar problem where USB devices would not be recognized on
boot-up and I had to replug them in. The solution to that problem is

generic USB pendrives. I've tried using update-pciids and update-
usbids hoping it might help. It appears that because the device is not
enumerated,
This is a problem for me on UNR Karmic Koala lpia on a Dell mini 10.
(I'm using Vanilla Ubuntu, not Dell buntu).
I upgraded from Jaunty, this wasn't a fresh install.
