This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I have this annoying clicking sound as well on my Ubuntu 9.10 (kernel
version 2.6.31-14-generic). The sound card on my HP 530 laptop is
Conexant CX20549 (Venice). It wasn't an issue in Ubuntu 9.04.

same problem with a HP 530. it randomly keeps clicking, its killing me!!
just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10.
