so this is an issue, in my case, with installation of the kernel source
for nvidia-185. apparently it is not installed properly when you install
nvidia-glx-185 w/ dependencies. it is installed but somehow in
correctly. so re-installing just the nvidia-185-kernel-source fixes the
problem. suspend
for those with nvidia cards this may be an issue with your video driver
